Iraqi suicide bomber kills 18 at funeral in Baghdad
BAGHDAD (AP) - A suicide bomber apparently targeting a senior security official blew himself up inside a funeral tent Monday, killing 18 people in the latest of a series of deadly attacks chipping away at the notion of a calmer Iraq. The U.S. military has repeatedly warned that the fight against insurgents is not over, and the bombing in a village north of Baghdad was the third in as many days in Sunni Arab areas thought to have been largely rid of al-Qaida militants.
Gas station clerk accused of fraud totaling $50,000
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A gas station clerk is accused of defrauding her boss out of nearly $50,000 by selling fuel to her family and friends for a tenth of a penny a gallon. Police arrested 25-year-old Madeline Jordan on Sunday - along with her mother, brother, a cousin and two others - after setting up a sting at the BP station in South Charleston. The station's owner told police last week he had noticed a significant drop in his income and found receipts that listed the deeply discounted rate.
Domestic partnership bill to be presented to House

SANTA FE (AP) - A proposal to allow for domestic partnerships is advancing to the House for consideration. Gov. Bill Richardson supports the measure to give unmarried couples - homosexual or heterosexual - the same legal protections and benefits as married couples. The legislation cleared the House Judiciary Committee on Monday on a mostly party line 9-4 vote. All but one of the panel's Republicans opposed the bill.
