Among the obscenities scribbled on the stalls in bathrooms around campus, you may find something you didn't expect - sexual solicitations from gay men.

Users of Craigslist.com posted locations around the city for men to meet up and have sex in public.

including some in Dane Smith and Popejoy halls.

On Wednesday, someone reported two men having sex in a bathroom in the Center for the Arts, said Karen Wentworth, spokeswoman for the University.

However, UNM Police officers didn't find anything, said Lt. Pat Davis, spokesman for the department.

"There was no indication that was going on when our officers got there," he said. "This has never been an issue at UNM."

Someone who is arrested for having sex in public could be charged with indecent exposure or disorderly conduct.

Wentworth said what happened Wednesday was an isolated incident.

"The only incident we can find was the one," she said.

She said she did not know if the University would investigate public sex on campus.

Finding evidence of homosexual sex is common for Ben Lamon, a custodian in Johnson Center.

"I have found the condoms. I find little packets of sexual lubricants frequently," he said. "I assume there's some kind of debauchery going on."

Lamon said most of the sexual activity in the bathrooms is homosexual because he finds far more evidence of such, including a homosexual magazine.

Lamon said he finds evidence of gay sex multiple times a week.

People often write on the walls in bathroom stalls to solicit sex, he said.

One man is known for using bathroom walls across campus to offer oral sex to men, Lamon said.

"It's all over the place. Apparently, he's rather prolific, and they find his little thing all over," he said. "I don't know how that all works. It seems to me there's some kind of strange cruise culture going on in there."

Although Lamon's never caught anyone in the act, there's a lot of homosexual activity going on at UNM, he said.

"Just finding the amount of lube I've found this semester, I would think it's semi-frequently," he said. "I can't imagine it being rare for the amount of stuff I find."
