Daily Lobo: What do you like about working in the weight room at Johnson Center?
Marcus Scott: I get to meet a lot of cool new people, honestly. When I first came to school, I didn't know that many people, and I went to the gym, and I met a lot of people.

DL: Have you met any crazy people while working here?
MS: This lady that used to come to the gym, she used to dance in front of the mirrors and do little, like, ballet poses. She used to go to that chair (near the entrance), sit across in the splits, and she would just go like this (holding his arms over his head like a ballerina). I swear to God.
DL: Was she listening to music or something?
MS: I don't even know. It was weird, because she'd come at the most packed hour and stand (near the entrance), and just do weird stuff, like weird stuff, man. I don't know. It was just like a weird person.
DL: Does she still come around?
MS: How did we get her to not come? We kind of told her, 'You have to be doing something.' I don't know what we did. She wasn't technically doing anything wrong. She was just being really weird. Hopefully, people that read that will know her - the crazy lady that used to dance in the weight room.
DL: Have there ever been any fights in here?
MS: No. Not really. Honestly, no fights or anything like that. The only fights that do ever happen are going to be on the basketball court, all the former wannabe NBA players. The guys who can't let go of the dream, I guess.
DL: Are they all intense?
MS: Yeah, pretty much. No one's going to be signed for A1 (And 1). That's for sure.
DL: How does working in the weight room help with your exercise science degree?
MS: Just being around the environment of people working out. The main reason I got into exercise science is I really enjoy lifting weights and being active.
DL: Do you notice if anyone that comes in is on steroids?
MS: I don't really know, man. There's some big fools out there, but there's a lot of guys that do work hard. I'm not a doctor. I don't know the exact signs. I'm not going to lie.
DL: Do UNM athletes come in to work out?
MS: Sometimes the Lobo football players come in, like on their off days. You can tell who they are because they're huge guys, like, man, "You're doing a weird amount of weight there, buddy."
DL: Do you get intimidated working with all these huge guys?
MS: Not really. When I was in El Paso, I used to work with this guy. He was a really strong guy. It's crazy to think these guys are my age, too. They're just strong people. They're not, like, freakishly huge or anything like that. They're just strong people. That's why I don't think a lot of people come in here on 'roids or anything like that.
DL: Do you play any sports?
MS: I play basketball at, like, open gym. But I'm not going to lie. I don't play a lot because of school. It's hard to balance. Who doesn't like to work out? School always comes first. That's why we're here. It's tough. I'm not going to lie. If I've got a test, I'm going to study for my test rather than get a workout in.
DL: What would your major be if it wasn't exercise science?
MS: If I was brilliant, nuclear engineering, go work at Sandia (labs). Get a job for life pretty much.
DL: Is it because of the money, or do you want to blow stuff up?
MS: Just the money, man. I'm not going to lie.
DL: What do you like to do during summer break?
MS: Pretty much what anyone else likes to do - hang out. I just turned 21, so, of course, go out.
DL: What do you like to drink?
MS: I just turned 21, man. I don't know. I don't even know yet. Put that down. I just turned 21, and I don't even know yet.
