Staff Report
UNM announced the creation of the Safety and Security Task Force on Tuesday.
The group includes UNM's chief of police, the dean of students and the manager of Albuquerque's emergency services.
Breda Bova, adviser to the president and head of the group, said the group will meet for the first time next week.
The group will review safety policies at other universities and decide how UNM could implement them.

"We'll be looking at the best practices of some of our peer institutions, and hopefully adapting them so they fit at UNM," she said.
The group will also review the security infrastructure at UNM, such as lighting and security cameras.
The group will make recommendations to the University president and other administrators.
Bova said the group was going to be created before the shootings at Virginia Tech.
The group was meant to address issues such as burglary and lighting, but the scope increased after the shootings, she said.
"The day of the Virginia Tech thing, we already had selected everyone who was going to be on the board," she said. "After that, we decided to add someone from the FBI and from the city's safety department."
