Staff Report
The Office of the Medical Examiner building on North Campus was evacuated Thursday after a chemical spill in one of the laboratories, said Lt. Pat Davis, UNM Police spokesman.
"Routine work in one of the chemistry labs exposed some chemicals that could potentially be volatile," he said.
Lab workers notified UNM Police of the spill at about 2:30 p.m., Davis said.
No one was injured, and people were back in the lab by about 5:30 p.m., he said.
About 20 people were evacuated from the building, and the parking lot north of the building was blocked off, Davis said.
The department called in the Albuquerque Police Department's bomb squad to investigate the spill, he said.
It's always better to be safe than sorry, Davis said.
"They've got everything from volatile chemicals to Clorox," he said. "So, they sent in the robot."
