What do you think of UNM's new text message emergency

I think it'll be very useful. Some people don't have cell phones, but I'm sure that they know someone who has a cell phone. Not everyone has text messaging, either, but again, I'm sure they know someone who does. It's much quicker than e-mail, because the last time there was an alert, I got it like two days later. I don't always check that.

Erica Freese

Senior

Psychology and communication

It's a good idea because e-mail hasn't worked, I don't think, very effectively. I wonder about the people who don't get text messaging. I have a roommate that doesn't do text messaging at all. So, there would have to be some kind of other alternative that would work for those other students, as well. It's at least a step forward in the right direction to think of some other ideas.

Brian Ferguson

Criminology

It's a good idea. Everyone seems to have a cell phone these days, and they always check their text messages in class. So, it's a good thing that they're doing that.

Brittany Trujillo

Sophomore

Nursing

It's a really good idea because I check my e-mail 40 times a day, but a lot of people don't. So, it's a good way to get the alert across because everyone has their cell phone each and every second of the day.

Katrina Guillen

Undecided

Well, now that everything has happened with Virginia Tech, and not that many students knew about the whole thing, I think that it will be better to get the word out, especially if you're on our campus. Not many people check their e-mails.
