Charles Crespy, dean of the Anderson Schools of Management, announced his resignation Wednesday.
In July, 23 of 42 faculty members voted no confidence in Crespy.
"I have failed to build unity in a fractious faculty," Crespy said in a letter to UNM. "This is the most bitter disappointment of my professional career."
Crespy could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Amy Wohlert, vice provost of graduate education, will act as interim dean, Provost Reed Dasenbrock said.
Dasenbrock said he was sad to see Crespy go.
"Short term, this is not the best news," he said. "I think we really need to find a dean this time who can move - who has the ability to move the school forward. You'll see from the letter that he (Crespy) did not think he had the ability to do that."
In the letter, Crespy said Anderson should be proud of its accomplishments during his tenure, including reaccredidation, a student-managed investment portfolio and a financial services center.
"As far as we've come, we still face significant challenges," the letter stated. "We, the faculty, have struggled to find ways to engage each other honestly and constructively. We have of late lost our focus on creating a high quality educational experience for all who walk through our doors."
