Amanda Ridgeway, a senior from Los Lunas High School, visited UNM on Saturday to get information about attending the University and to learn more about its nursing program.

"I really want to come here now," Ridgeway said.

UNM Recruitment Services hosted more than 1,000 prospective students and their families on Senior Day to introduce them to life at the University.

Student Shayla Armstrong, a recruitment specialist, said recruitment services has been on the phone taking RSVPs from prospective students and preparing for Senior Day over the last few weeks.

"We had to make a whole bunch of those packets with lots of information for the students," she said.

Each department had its own booth that provided information about UNM's programs, Armstrong said.

Donald Rosenow, a senior at Goddard High School in Roswell, said he visited the ROTC booth and will join the program if he comes to UNM next year.

Sam Isabel, a senior from La Cueva High School, said the event provided information that will be helpful for comparing UNM to other schools.

He came to learn about the lottery scholarship, work study and the music program, he said.

"I'm probably more inclined to come here now," he said.

Isabel will visit Denver University and possibly Denton College before making a final decision, he said.

The event's activities included a tour of the residence halls, Armstrong said.

Nara Olivas, a senior at Los Lunas High School, said the dorm tour was her favorite activity, and she will probably live on campus next fall.

"I have always wanted to come to UNM," she said.

Anna Schneider came with her son Andrew Porteous. He is a Highland High School student.

Schneider said she has lived in Albuquerque for 29 years but didn't know much about UNM.

"It was a good chance to look around campus and see what's going on here," Porteous said.

Porteous and Schneider said the booths were helpful and provided the information they were looking for.

"I liked just getting an overview and finding out more about specifically the music and engineering programs," Schneider said.

Schneider said the only thing she doesn't like about UNM is the inconvenience of parking.

"Other than that, I have no complaints," she said.
