the daily lobo asks you:

This week ASUNM elections took place. Do you think it's important for students to vote? Why or why not?

Tiara Triebel

Freshman

Biochemistry

"It's important to vote because it's important to be active in your school community and to know what you're voting for. If you want things done, you have to vote, because without voting there's no point. You can't complain unless you vote."

"I didn't vote. I don't know why. I saw the results and it seemed like it's a very insubstantial number of people that voted when you look at the whole student body, so I'd say I didn't participate from general apathy."

Genell Burns

Media arts

"I don't think it was important to vote because ASUNM doesn't really have any power. When it all comes down to it, they are merely students, and how can they help me?"

Brandon Velivis

Junior

Biology

"It's important that the students have a voice in the actual functioning of the school itself. It's kind of important that we have a voice and are able to have influence on some policies, at least, in the school itself."

Erin Loader

"No, because nothing ever changes. They always say that they're going to lower tuition or do something of that sort, and people at UNM have been hearing that from generation to generation and nothing has ever changed. It's kind of like high school elections, you know? 'We're going to put a new coke machine in,' and it's always malfunctioning, you know?"
