Billy Sparks, former deputy chief of staff at the governor's office, begins an executive position at UNM today.
Sparks was appointed to the position of executive director of communications and marketing for the Health Sciences Center.
Sparks spent the past year and a half working in Gov. Bill Richardson's office before resigning Feb. 1.
According to a news release, Sparks will work closely with the Health Sciences Center Public Affairs Department. He will also work as a consultant to Paul Roth, executive vice president of the Health Sciences Center, according to the release.

"Billy Sparks is a great addition to our team," Roth said in a news release. "He brings experiences that will benefit the Health Sciences Center at a time when our mission is growing and we are implementing the recommendations that came out of our recent Health Care Summit."
Sparks could not be reached for comment.
Sam Giammo, director of public affairs for the Health Sciences Center, also could not be reached.
