Former physics professor dies

Victor Regener, a former UNM Physics and Astronomy professor and designer of Regener Hall, died Jan. 20 in Tampa, Fla. He was 92.

He came to UNM in 1946 as chairman for the Department of Physics and Astronomy, a position he held until 1957, and again from 1962 to 1979.

He retired from UNM in 1979, when he was awarded the UNM Regents' Meritorious Service Medal, and received a written dedication from author Tony Hillerman.

Regener, who was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Berlin, Germany, also built Capilla Peak Observatory in the Manzano Mountains.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at the Monte Vista Christian Church. The service will begin at 10 a.m. and a reception will be held afterward at the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
