San Diego Aztecs fall to Lobos

UNM quarterback Kole McKamey threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Lobos beat San Diego State University 47-24 Saturday night in San Diego.

The win improves the Lobos' record to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain West Conference. SDSU fell to 3-5 and 2-3.

The win was the Lobos' fifth straight against the Aztecs.

SDSU couldn't get anything going in the first half, as UNM held the Aztec offense to 115 yards and only three points.

The Lobos scored 30 points in the first half, scoring on their first five possessions. UNM had 20 first downs in the first half to the Aztecs' five.

Lobo wide receiver Hank Baskett had 141 yards receiving on seven catches and two touchdowns. Baskett's first touchdown came on a 10-yard pass from McKamey in the second quarter to put the Lobos up 23-0. His second touchdown came in the third quarter to give the Lobos a 40-10 lead.

Baskett has seven touchdowns this season, topping his previous high of three last season and the season before. Baskett is now fourth in career receiving touchdowns with 15.

DonTrell Moore had 132 yards on 36 rushes, including a 4-yard touchdown run to secure a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. He also had six catches for 61 yards.

Aztec wide receiver Jeff Webb was the bright point for SDSU, catching nine passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

McKamey finished the game 21-of-32 for 248 yards and one interception to go along with his four touchdowns.

Since the 2001 season, the Lobos are 20-4 in games played after Oct. 15. UNM is now 12-5 on the road in the MWC over the past five years.

The UNM defense recorded three interceptions. Senior Mike Powdrell had two of those in the first start of his career.
