Staff Report
The UNM Board of Regents approved a proposal to request $7.3 million in capital outlay from the Legislature for High Tech High next year.
Capital outlay is money granted by the Legislature for purchase of equipment or buildings, which includes renovations.
High Tech High is a charter school affiliated with the University, which focuses on technology-based learning.
According to a news release, the money will go to biology and engineering laboratory equipment, laptops, wireless networking, Internet servers and a media arts lab.

Part of the money will also go toward building or renovating a space on the University campus to house the school.
In March, Robin Troup, director of High Tech High, said the cost of putting the school on UNM's campus was too high, which is why it now resides at the old Rio Grande Yacht Club at 2500 Yale Blvd. S.E.
High Tech High opened its doors Aug. 15.
The 12,400-square-foot building is big enough for the 90 freshmen enrolled, but administrators are worried when more students enroll next fall, it could get a little cramped.
Karen Wentworth, a UNM spokeswoman, said the regents made a promise in March to High Tech High to get them on campus eventually.
She said the regents want the students at the high school to be able to share UNM's resources, including labs and instructors, even though the school operates independently from the University.
