The Daily Lobo asks you:

What do you think about the possible 8 to 12 percent tuition increase?

"It sucks. I think it's ridiculous, because we don't have money to begin with, so where else are we going to get money? If we're coming to school and having to get financial aid, why make it more difficult?"

Antoinette Murphy

junior pre-med

"I don't really understand why they keep raising tuition. What's that money going toward?"

Kevin Goddard

senior

business

"I always think tuition should be lower, because education is pretty unaffordable in the first place."

Judy Calman

senior

philosophy and biology

"I'm on the lottery scholarship, so it wouldn't really affect me."

Parker Harrell

junior

engineering

How do you feel about the 2 percent compensation increase in each scenario?

"I've been here a long time. There have been good years and bad. This is a bad year. The administration seems to have made up their minds about it, so we'll see if we can talk them out of it."

David Jones

Director of Graduate Studies for the English

Department

"It's better than nothing."

Deborah Sulsky

Professor in the Mathematics & Statistics Department

"It is always disappointing when your annual raise does not keep pace with the yearly increase in the cost of living. Primarily because of the rapidly rising costs associated with health care, it will certainly be the case that in this respect this year's raise will be insufficient."

Todd Kapitula

Associate professor in the Mathematics & Statistics Department

"I don't think you'll find that most faculty is happy with a 2 percent raise. I personally think if we look at the salary at UNM, it's below the national average. So we should try to come close to the national average, and only 2 percent won't help."

Roli Varma

Associate professor in the School of Public Administration
