State Sen. Cisco McSorley introduced a bill appropriating $200,000 to the manufacturing engineering program at UNM.
The measure, Senate bill 362, is in the Senate Education Committee.
UNM Health Sciences
A bill that would expand the prenatal program at UNM Health Sciences passed by the Senate Public Affairs Committee on Tuesday.
Under Senate bill 107, UNM will receive $319,000 for the program, which includes clinics, substance-abuse programs, ultrasound services and training programs.

The funding increase was not included in the Commission on Higher Education's budget recommendation. The commission recommended a $16,400 increase.
The bill was referred to the Senate Finance Committee.
Sen. Sue Wilson Beffort introduced a bill that would appropriate more than $500,000 to UNM to increase enrollment in its nursing program. The measure would also expand nursing programs statewide.
The bill, Senate bill 394, is in the Senate Public Affairs Committee.
Another bill introduced to the New Mexico Legislature last week will continue the funding of medical residency programs in Las Cruces, Roswell and Santa Fe. UNM would receive $750,000 to continue the program.
The measure, Senate bill 338, is sponsored by Sen. Timothy Jennings. It is in the Senate Public Affairs Committee.
Higher Education
New Mexico's three research universities would receive money for competitive research under a bill introduced last week.
The measure, sponsored by Sen. William Payne, is one of UNM's top legislative priorities.
The University would get funds from the state to support research. It would receive an amount up to 1 percent of its total awards for research.
The bill, Senate bill 331, is in the Senate Education Committee.
