Student tells police she was raped

A UNM student was kidnapped on Harvard Boulevard while walking home from work and forced to perform oral sex on her abductor Tuesday night, a criminal complaint states.

At 6 p.m. while she was walking home, she was held at knifepoint and forced into a car, according to the complaint.

Joelpatrick Courtney was charged with criminal sexual penetration, kidnapping and aggravated battery, the complaint states.

The student's ankles were tied with a shoestring and her wrists with a scarf, the complaint states. Before the student was driven to a parking lot at 414 Louisiana Boulevard, the man placed a rolled-up piece of clothing in her mouth and used a shoestring to tie it to her head and mouth, the complaint states.

The student was able to escape from the ties and flagged down a vehicle, according to the complaint. After speaking to a police officer, the student was transported to a hospital, the complaint states. She later identified Courtney as the offender at the Albuquerque Police Department's southeast substation, according to the complaint.

A witness stated in the complaint that Courtney usually hangs out in the area around Yale and Gibson boulevards.
