No decision yet in first-time voter ID controversy

Jes£s Mu§oz, campaign organizer for the Young Voters Alliance, speaks to protesters outside the Second Judicial District Courthouse on Thursday. The protesters were waiting to hear the results of a court case that will determine whether first-time voters have to bring ID to the polls. The final decision was not made Thursday because all of the witnesses had not been heard, and court will reconvene today at 9 a.m.

Among the protesters were representatives from the League of Conservation Voters, the New Voters Project and the League of Pissed Off Voters.

Brandon Atencio from the League of Pissed Off Voters said requiring people to show ID that includes a current address at the polls is a way to suppress certain votes.

"The people in power think they can push poor people around," he said. "They're making it as hard as they can for poor people and minorities to vote against them, which is what they would do. Voting is a universal right."
