Senator to focus on accountability

Sen. Justin Crosby said his organizational skills and passion for the job make him an ideal candidate for ASUNM vice president.

Crosby, who has been on the Associated Students of UNM Senate for the past three semesters, is running on the Ignition slate unopposed.

"I am responsible and very good at time management," he said. "I have passion for the job that needs to be done and done correctly."

Though not many people vote in ASUNM elections, Crosby said the student voice is still heard.

"I believe that a senator represents the students who want to be involved, the believers of the student body who wish to make a change," he said. "It's people who are involved on campus that try to represent the whole student body."

Of the Ignition slate's goals, Crosby said increasing student involvement in ASUNM is most important to him. He said holding senators more accountable for their student groups is a big part of that.

"It's their responsibility to get information out to them (student groups)," he said. "We need to find out what issues matter to them, whether it's parking or class schedules. We hear things now, but it's only from the organizations that come up and tell us. We need to make sure we're doing the job they want us to do."

Crosby said he will propose a presidents' forum, in which officials from student groups can voice concerns to the Senate. He also said ASUNM's spring budget was reasonable.

"It's not correct to say that ASUNM received most of it's own budget," he said. "It's like saying that UNM received two thirds of the spring budget. It's not like that money goes toward food or anything. It goes to executive agencies who serve the biggest population on campus."

Crosby correctly identified the president, provost and dean of students.
