Kevin Stevenson said he is running for ASUNM president with an open mind.
He said as president he will listen to students to make their goals a reality. One of the main problems the Associated Students of UNM has, he said, is that all ASUNM events don't get the attention they deserve.
"It's really surprising how many people don't know how it's set up and how they can get involved," he said.
Stevenson, a junior, is an applied mathematics major and is running on the Ignition slate. Though this election has only 12 candidates for Senate, and Stevenson is the only candidate for president, he said interest in ASUNM is increasing and decreasing at the same time.
"Last fall there were more candidates, but involvement went up in other parts of ASUNM," he said. "The executive agencies are doing really well. They created 15 new positions."
Stevenson is the executive director of Student Special Events. He said his experience in this position gave him an understanding of ASUNM's executive agencies.

"I want to work on unity between the agencies and the student government," he said.
He said when agencies and the Senate work together, students are informed more regularly about ASUNM activities. He'd like to let students know what they can do to participate in ASUNM aside from just running for Senate, he said.
"There's a whole slew of paid and volunteer positions," Stevenson said.
He said tuition was only raised 4.7 percent the last two years and that's why the University is faced with raising it a lot this year.
"One thing we talked about with the regents and one thing we agreed we want is to keep tuition rates higher than in the past, but keep them consistent," he said. "If you could just do 7 or 8 percent every year. Tuition is going to go up. That's inevitable."
Stevenson correctly identified the president, the provost and the dean of students.
