Officer kills teenager during beating incident
ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - An Albuquerque police officer fatally shot a teenager who reportedly refused to stop beating another man with a baseball bat in the parking lot of the police academy.
The shooting of Eric Harrison, 17, of Albuquerque occurred Saturday night after two officers at the academy noticed a man with a bat standing over another outside the front doors of the main building, said Capt. Sonny Leeper.
Officers Matthew Thompson and Brad Ahrensfield told the man to drop the bat, said Det. Jeff Arbogast on Monday.
Thompson shot the teen twice when he refused to drop the bat and looked as if he would hit the victim again, Arbogast said.
