Two UNM Greek organizations are recovering from what police are calling one of the worst vandalism sprees in that area of campus in recent years.
At approximately 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, the windows of six vehicles, belonging to members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and Chi Omega sorority, were shot out by what is thought to have been a BB gun.
The damage is believed to have been done by an assailant or assailants riding in a car traveling west on Mesa Vista Road, the street bordering both of the organizations' houses.
Damage to the vehicles is estimated to be between $5,000 and $6,000, according to the organizations.
UNM Police Department Lt. Mike Young said there were no witnesses to the crime and that there are no suspects at this time.
"The investigation is still in its beginning phases, but we plan on doing everything we can to get to the bottom of this," said Young, adding that the vandalism is the worst of its kind in that area of campus in the seven years he has worked at UNMPD.

He said a department investigator has been assigned to the incident and that police plan on looking into it further.
Several members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon said they heard the windows being shot out, but by the time they went outside, the perpetrators were gone.
Fraternity members said they did not know why somebody would do it and that they could not provide the police with any possible suspects.
Amy Cook, president of the Chi Omega sorority, did not return several telephone calls Monday.
