Man arrested at UNMH for heroin possession

An Albuquerque man has been arrested and faces possible felony charges after police say he brought syringes containing heroin to a patient at University Hospital.

University police say Jason Marmon, 28, brought the heroin to his friend on Sunday.

The patient's father reportedly told police he noticed his son had the syringes and he took them away.

Police interviewed the patient and he told them his friend, who was still outside the hospital, brought him the drugs.

Police found Marmon outside and began questioning and searching him.

According to the police report, Marmon had in his possession separate containers with heroin inside along with equipment used to inject the drug.

During their search of his belongings, Marmon complained that the handcuffs he was in were too tight.

The police report states Marmon tried to run from police as they loosened the handcuffs.

UNM Police Department Cmdr. James Daniels said the arresting officer was injured when he ran after and caught Marmon.

Marmon had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, the police report states.

He was booked into the Bernalillo County Detention Center.

Police investigating theft at Mental Health Center

UNM police are investigating a reported theft of $675 in cash from a UNMH Mental Health Center safe.

The cash belonged to an in-patient staying at the facility.

According to the police report, the money was taken between 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 7:30 a.m. the following day.

The report states that there were no signs of forced entry and no belongings of other patients were missing.

An administrator at the center said only a few employees have access to the safe via keys and a security card after business hours but during the day, access is almost unlimited.

Student accuses UNMH security guard of assault

A 22-year-old student told campus police a security guard working at the UNM Cancer Research Center assaulted him on Thursday.

The student said he rode his bike on the sidewalk near the hospital and as he was preparing to lock it to a rack near the Cancer Research Center, a man identifying himself as a security guard approached him.

The guard reportedly told him that he saw the student riding his bike recklessly and that he almost hit a patient.

The two became involved in a verbal altercation and the guard reportedly grabbed the student's arm.

The guard reportedly threatened to ticket the student or confiscate his bike.

The student told police he left, and then returned to apologize but another verbal altercation between the two ensued.

A supervisor told police the guard had told her about the altercation, but that she had not heard about the physical contact.

The report states that the investigation is ongoing pending contact with the guard.

2 UNM students being investigated for theft

UNM police were called to the SUB Oct. 29 in reference to a reported theft.

An employee of the Higher Grounds food store reportedly told police a man took items from the store.

The employee told police the man was accompanied by a woman who was not seen taking anything.

Police searched the SUB and found the two, identified as Kevin Hernandez and Christine Torrez, both UNM students, inside the SUB theater.

Police made no charges but stated they would continue their investigation after reviewing tapes of the alleged theft.

Both students were warned not to return to the SUB or they will be arrested for trespassing.
