Students results for West Nile return negative

An official from the UNM Student Health Center said several students who were tested for West Nile Virus can breathe a little easier, after test results came back as negative.

Ron Besante, the center's nurse manager, could not confirm how many students were tested, but as of Aug. 26, the number was three.

College students are at a significantly lower risk for contracting the virus than the elderly, Besante said.

He also said test results usually take about two weeks to get back.

"By then, especially in younger, healthier people, the virus has already run its course and the patient is OK," Besante said.

FBI investigates car dealership vandalism

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The FBI is looking into vandalism at a car dealership here that left a dozen sport utility vehicles damaged with graffiti representing the seven deadly sins and the initials of an environmental extremist group.

The SUVs at a south Santa Fe Land Rover dealership were vandalized with yellow spray paint sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning, Santa Fe police said.

The FBI got involved because of similar acts on SUVs targeted by eco-terrorists in other states, said FBI Special Agent Bill Elwell of Albuquerque.

The initials "ELF" where among the messages painted on the vehicles, a likely reference to the radical Earth Liberation Front, city police said.

Baylor president urged to resign from position

WACO, Texas (AP) - The president at Baylor, the university rocked by a scandal involving a cover-up of improper tuition payments paid to a slain basketball player, should step down because he cannot unite the school amid the crisis, say three former chairmen of Baylor's board of regents.

"We have lost confidence in the ability of Dr. Sloan to lead, inspire and unite Baylor's stakeholders in performance of the university's mission," stated the Sept. 2 letter. "Therefore, we urge Dr. Sloan to resign from his position as president of Baylor University. If resignation is not forthcoming, we urge the board of regents to replace Dr. Sloan as president of Baylor University at the earliest opportunity."

The school's faculty senate may also discuss a possible no-confidence vote on the 54-year-old president Tuesday.

The meetings follow launching of investigations into former head basketball coach Dave Bliss' attempt to cover up improper tuition payments paid to slain forward Patrick Dennehy.

Warehouse, militant home target of strike

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) - Israeli helicopters fired two missiles at the home of a Hamas militant in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, wounding at least 11 people, witnesses said.

The army said the target was a Hamas weapons warehouse inside the building, in the Khan Younis refugee camp.

Sunday's attack came hours after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said all Hamas militants were "marked for death."
