Cops bust dorm party, confiscate marijuana

University police were called to the Student Residence Center Sept. 5 after receiving a report of a disorderly party.

When police arrived at the dorm room in building 88C they reportedly found it full of students and alcoholic beverages, as well as having an odor of marijuana, the police report states.

A UNM student in the room at the time of the party reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana and turned a baggie containing the substance over to police.

Police asked all non-residents of the room to leave and then spoke with the five residents.

Police did not issue any citations but did notify the Dean of Students Office about the potential violations of University and housing policies.

Police took the marijuana into evidence to be destroyed and made the residents dispose of all alcohol.

Native art stolen from office during weekend

University police are investigating a reported burglary at American Indian Student Services that took place over the weekend.

According to the UNM police report, the items taken were worth $720 and included a painting, a drawing and a mouse pad.

An office employee told police that when she left on Friday, the two pieces of art and the mouse pad were in their normal places. When the employee returned on Monday, she noticed the three items were missing.

The office's director told police she did not give any of the five other employees who have keys to the office permission to enter it during the weekend.

According to witness statements, only six employees have keys to the office. Police questioned five of them and the sixth is out of the country on vacation. The report states police next intend to question custodial staff about the burglary.

The stolen items are: a pencil drawing of a Native American symbol by artist Kevin John; a painting of pottery and baskets by an unknown artist; and a Pendleton mouse pad.

Police dusted office entrances but were unable to come up with useable fingerprints. Officers reported no signs of a forced entry.
