UNM's newest member of the Board of Regents is no stranger to campus or the nature of the work he will be performing during his tenure.
Doug Brown, a local businessman and president and CEO of Tuition Plan Inc., was appointed to the UNM Board of Regents Aug. 7 by Gov. Bill Richardson.
"I hope to be supportive of the school and of the external audiences of UNM," Brown said. He added that he does not yet have a clear sense of what his role on the board will be, but he expects it to evolve over time.
"Aside from an impressive resume, tremendous higher education and impeccable credentials, Doug Brown brings a unique perspective on higher education to the UNM Board of Regents," Richardson said in a news release.
That 'impressive resume' includes positions on 45 boards, including 17 board presidencies, two terms as national head of Stanford University annual fund raising, president of the Albuquerque Community Foundation and in 1992 UNM created the "Douglas M. Brown Endowed Professorship" in honor of his work for the University.
He also has received a bachelor's and master's degree from Stanford.

Brown, 65, moved to Albuquerque in 1986 and has worked as a member of the Anderson Schools of Management Board of Directors, including a term as chairman. He is a member of the Lobo Club, has been a member of three University search committees, is the founding president of the President's Club and is a member of the Popejoy Society.
Brown has also been a member of the UNM Foundation's Board of Directors for about three years and will continue to work for the board while serving as the regents' appointment to the foundation.
"I'm just very pleased with this opportunity," Brown said.
In 2002, Financial Executives Institute named Brown and his wife, Sarah, the owner of Gold Street CafÇ at 218 Gold Ave. SW, as Albuquerque's outstanding business couple.
