Thefts result in $8,500 of stolen equipment
University police are investigating the theft of more than $8,500 worth of projection equipment taken in two thefts at Dane Smith Hall and the new SUB.
The first theft occurred July 2 at the SUB when five Hitachi LCD projectors were stolen, along with four cases, from a third-floor storage room. The police report states that only three people have keys to the room and that there were no signs of forced entry. However, the SUB employee who reported the theft said that one or two doors leading into storage room are sometimes propped open so workers can easily gain access to areas they are working in.
The projectors and cases are estimated to be worth $7,136.
In a theft occurring July 9 at Dane Smith, an Epson ceiling projector was ripped from its mounting bracket in room 125. The cost of the projector and damage to the mounting bracket are listed at $1,472 in the police report.
Police have no suspects in either theft, according to the report, but UNMPD detectives are investigating.
