The UNM Foundation, the University's management body for all contributions to UNM programs, has announced the election of five new members to its board of directors and the re-election of five more members to second terms.
New members were formally introduced to the board at its annual meeting April 25.
The new members of the board of directors are Guy Archambeau, Jr. from the Pueblo of Acoma; Thomas Blueher and Robert Taichert, both of Albuquerque; Donald Chalmers from Rio Rancho and John "Jay" Lopez of San Diego, Calif.
"The foundation is the financially supportive arm of the University and instrumental in making it work," said Chalmers, president of Don Chalmers Ford dealership in Rio Rancho. "I'm just trying to support the University because it is a wonderful asset for the state and I'm just trying to do what I think will help."
The Ford Motor Company recognized Chalmers with a "Hero of the Planet" award received by only five other dealers nationwide for social and community service. Chalmers is already a member of the board of directors for Wells Fargo Bank, Albuquerque Economic Development, Inc., the Better Business Bureau of New Mexico and the New Mexico Auto Dealers Association.
Archambeau is an associate professor of educational administration at New Mexico Highlands University and a member of the New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education. He has been affiliated with the American Association of School Administrators, the National Indian Education Association and the National Education Association.
