LETTER: Protestors rally in cold, wind or rain

Editor,

Jonathan's Kahn's letter on March 31 about protesters shows that students are paying attention to both supporters of war and peace, and that fact in itself is heartening.

However, his pointing fingers at one group of individuals needs response.

On Wednesday and Thursday of spring break, hundreds - yes, hundreds - of people gathered at the UNM Bookstore to protest the impending, and ultimately the start of, the war in Iraq.

We braved wind, rain, sleet, and being splashed upon by malicious drivers who drove through the gutters to drench protesters and cold weather. Through all of this bad weather, more and more people came to the bookstore despite feeling miserable.

Mr. Kahn may not be aware of that, so I thought he might like to know that pro-peace demonstrators have in fact been demonstrating in both good and bad weather.

True Americans participate in practicing constitutional rights, not whining when they don't know all the facts. They demonstrate when there are issues of great concern and when they are impassioned by those issues.

I know, I know, you were probably going in somewhere to get out of the weather and get some coffee. Too bad our troops can't. Show some spine - act instead of spewing rhetoric.
