Clay animation is on tap this weekend at the SouthWest Film Center with an exclusive showing of legendary Czech surrealist master Jan Svanmajer's latest work, "Little Otik."
"Little Otik" is a dark comedy about a couple that after having no luck conceiving, decides to dig up a tree root and whittle a child. The couple's maternalism transforms the tree stump into a living, breathing creature.
But there's a catch. The baby has a voracious appetite. Svanmajer's film is steeped in the traditions of folk tales and myth.
As Svanmajer points out, the story is highly relevant during this age of the mapping of the human genome.
