ASUNM Profiles: Josh Parsons

Elections for the Associated Students of UNM senators, the vice president and president will be held April 16. The Daily Lobo will be running profiles of each candidate today, Thursday and Friday.

Josh Parsons, an ASUNM senate candidate running with the Horizon slate, said communication between UNM students and the administration is a vital priority.

"We need to make sure students know what is going on," Parsons said. "ASUNM is the liaison between the administration and students, so senators need to communicate problems and help direct which way the University should go."

Parsons, a sophomore marketing major, said senators should represent the students with integrity.

"We need to be honest and do things the way they should be done," he said. "We need to show dedication to the students we are elected to serve."

Parsons said he believes a main concern of students is diversity.

"We need to make sure every student's voice is heard," he said "Transportation and student involvement outside the classroom are big issues as well. Those issues are definitely a major challenge"

Parsons said he would like to help create interest in the Associated Students of UNM by increasing communication.

"Jennifer Onuska took a big step in that direction this year with her columns in the Lobo," he said. "Everyone in our slate is focused on building communication. We need to let students know ways that they can get involved. It is also important to communicate with the student organizations on campus because they are the people we represent."

Parsons, who said academics are his top priority, is a University Scholar and a member of the University Honors program. He is president of the Inter-Fraternity Council and a member of the Honors Student Advisory Council and the LoboPack.

He correctly identified Larry Willard, Andrea Cook and Sandra Begay-Campbell as regents, Chris Garcia as president and Brian Foster as provost.
