Junior Jenny French is running for re-election to the ASUNM senate because she said she believes the student government goes a long way helping students at UNM.
French, who is a member of the Horizon slate, said that her slate's goals would create a safer and cleaner campus.
"The goals of Horizon are the Fall Storm and the lighting on campus," she said. "What we want to create is a sticker or plaque to put on light poles around campus with a number on them so when a light goes out, students can notify the physical plant."
French added that the light initiative would go a long way in making students feel more comfortable on campus.
"In my experience, campus safety is a huge issue," French said. " In general, women are really concerned about the possibility of sexual assault."
French also said that she would work toward creating a mid-semester "tell-all," another of the slate's goals.

"We are planning it so that it is a forum for student concerns," she said. "A forum like that would definitely create more interest in ASUNM."
French, a political science major, said that she takes great pride in being a senator and would relish the opportunity of being re-elected.
"Being elected the first time was a big accomplishment for me," she said.
As a current member of the senate, French is on the Finance Committee, the Campus Safety Committee, the Library Committee and the SUB Grand Opening Committee. She is president of the Pan-Hellenic Council and a member of Alpha Chi Omega and the Order of Omega Honor Society.
French correctly named Andrea Cook, Jamie Koch and Larry Willard as regents; HESO, MEChA, and the Capoiera club as student organizations; and Chris Garcia as president. She could not name provost Brian Foster.
