ASUNM: Natalie Montgomery

Sophomore Natalie Montgomery, who is running for ASUNM senator on the Horizon slate, said that if elected, she wants to use her position to unite all the undergraduate organizations on campus to better UNM.

"In order for everyone here to see their goals to fruition, they need all the support they can get," Montgomery said. "Everyone on this campus is passionate about something. Bringing them all together will help them achieve their goals and raise the awareness and excitement about what everyone else is doing. ASUNM needs to be the bridge for that accomplishment."

Montgomery, who is the ASUNM secretary, said that her time in that position has provided her the unique opportunity to see how things are run and areas that need improvement.

"I understand the responsibilities of an ASUNM senator and what a big commitment they have to the students they represent," Montgomery said. "I feel that my time as Senate secretary has made me prepared for helping lead UNM into the future and making sure that UNM students are satisfied in their university."

She said that communication between ASUNM and the student body is another important issue that needs addressing and that she proposes e-mails, informative events on campus and a bigger presence by senators in the community as remedies for the problem.

"An alarming amount of students don't know what a big role ASUNM plays in their student lives, which is a shame because it is that lack of knowledge that prevents the two bodies from collaborating on all the issues facing UNM," Montgomery said.
