Editor,
I love this country and every decent citizen in it with all my heart. Especially the brave men and women who have sworn to protect it.
They are burdened with a very hard and necessary job and for that I admire and thank them. Unfortunately, somewhere in the sea of rhetoric, somebody has come up with the idea that if you're against impending war with Iraq; you're against the people who will be fighting the war. Hence, the popular pro-war slogan, "support our troops."
I know quite a few people in the military and none of them wanted to go to war. Yet all of them have already been deployed and are on their way to Turkey or the Persian Gulf. I care deeply care about these people; some of them are like family, which is why I don't want them sent into danger against their will.
If you "support our troops," then why are you so eager to get them killed? I know it's easy to talk about having war when all you have to do is talk about it.
While you're talking, our sons, daughters, fathers and mothers are going to be dying in a foreign country. Is that any more supportive than trying to keep them out of harm's way?
