LETTER: Take guest column with grain of salt

Editor,

Steve Chavez's guest column "Many peace groups corrupt," in the March 11 Lobo, used an e-mail reply from me without my permission to support a ridiculous misnomer to classify the New Mexico Solidarity Network as somehow attached to the Communist Party.

I suggest he dig deeper to qualify such a statement before he makes public something that is blatantly untrue.

In effect, all his article does is give credence to the right in this country who feed on the misconception that dissent is a Soviet plot, rather than relying on the truth which is that Americans have a Constitutional right to voice their opinions in an open democratic fashion.

I question the motives for why Chavez is intent on creating divisions within the peace and justice movement and ask that people read his words with skepticism.
