Editor,
This is an open letter to the irresponsible idiots who marched through the chemistry building protesting a possible war against Saddam Hussein Wednesday afternoon.
You are certainly at liberty to have your protests on campus outside of the buildings, but when you bring your disruptive noise into a building with laboratory classes in progress, your "expression of freedom of speech" comes closer to attempted assault.
I had organic chemistry students working with highly flammable organic solvents at the time. Several of these students walked out of the lab to see what all the commotion was about, leaving their experiments unattended for a few moments.
Now, I grant you that they should not have done that, but with the obscene racket you fools were making, I can't blame them for being curious. Had a fire started in the lab as a result of this, some of your fellow students could have been seriously injured, possibly even killed.
How about one of you brain-dead clowns tell me how you'd feel about that very real possibility. It seems to me that you do, in fact, support the notion of killing for peace after all.
