Students having trouble finding job listings on the Internet or writing rÇsumÇs now have a place to go.

The Career Resource Lab, located in the Career Services Center, is a state of the art computer pod that opened last October. The lab is a technology-based resource that has replaced the traditional paper-based library at the center.

"We encourage students to come in and use it for career development to research certain companies, check job listings such as monster.com or anything that can help land a job," said Richard Ross, coordinator of the center.

The UNM Career Services Center is a free service that provides students with assistance in career development, writing rÇsumÇs and networking as well as hosting job fairs. Each student who walks into the center starts by seeing a Career Development Facilitator, a counselor who helps students make plans for their future professions.

The Career Resource Lab computers have access to career assessment tests as well as listings of hundreds of jobs. Ross said it is never too early to use the Career Resource Lab.

"You should always have an up-to-date rÇsumÇ, even as a freshman, because you never know when possibly a job opportunity or an internship is going to arise," Ross said.

According to Ross, the Career Resource Lab had very few visitors when it first opened. Now, Ross said, that number has gradually increased to about 10 students a daily.

Adam Martinez, a junior majoring in Civil Engineering, is a regular visitor of the center.

" I found out about this service through the College Enrichment Program," Martinez said. "Now I come a couple of times a week to the new computer lab."

Debi Burnett is a student employee at the Career Resource Lab who encourages students to take part in the service.

" I tell everyone who says they don't know what to do or need help writing a rÇsumÇ to come here," Burnett said. This is the place that can help you with everything when looking for a job and it is free."

With the all of the growing information available on the Internet, Ross said he realizes students have access to finding out about jobs, but said the Career Services Center can assist students much further.

"Anybody can go to monster.com and sites like that are probably very good tools," Ross said. "But when you compare the number of people that are on monster.com with the number of people that are actually hired through monster.com, I can bet the numbers are really small. The best tool for landing a job is the on-campus recruitment process."

The Career Service Center and Career Resource Lab is available to walk-in students Monday- Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
