The UNM baseball team shook off consecutive losses to start the season and beat Texas Tech University 9-6 Sunday in Lubbock, Texas.
The Lobos' bats woke up from a weekend slumber while pounding out 11 hits. UNM (1-2) banged TTU starter Nathan Fouts for five runs including a solo home run by Dusty Young in the third inning and two-run dinger from Jeff Grady in the seventh.
Aaron Smith (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two runs. Matt Bullen and Kris Gross both came in to relieve for the second consecutive day.
UNM led 6-2 going into the eighth inning when Joe Salas nailed his first homer of the year. In the ninth inning, the Lobos added two more runs to their lead by way of Chris Alexander's two-run single.
In the bottom of the ninth, Salas came in to close the game and made things interesting, giving up four runs before getting the final out.

UNM dropped the first two games of the series, losing to Texas Tech 4-2 on Friday and 10-1 on Saturday.
The Lobos come home next weekend for their first home series of the season when they welcome New Mexico Highlands to Lobo Field.
