Editor,
I am a University of New Mexico journalism graduate and former Lobo staffer.
I was lucky enough to have had the privilege of knowing and learning from Professor Hank Trewhitt. I remember first meeting him in a public affairs writing class and thinking, "How did the University land this guy?" Of course, that was before I knew that he was a "home-grown hero," so to speak. I think he was just as thrilled to be giving back to his alma mater, as we were to have him lead us.
I was incredibly impressed by his credentials, experience, wit and his incredible ability to inspire students to pursue the craft. All journalism students, while still in school, dream of having the kind of career Trewhitt had -- to cover such historic events and write for such prestigious publications.
Henry "Hank" Trewhitt was a true gem among gems. I feel sorry for the hundreds of students who will never have the privilege of knowing and learning from him. He will be greatly missed!
