Editor,
I hope I am not the only person who is offended by George Bush's self-righteous indignation when he asserts that Saddam Hussein is using the people of Iraq as human shields -- treating them as expendable.
This is an interesting statement coming from the spokesperson of a regime that is directly responsible for the deaths of over a half million Iraqi civilians, most of whom are children, resulting from the sanctions placed upon Iraq over ten years ago. The embargo has had no effect on achieving the purported goal -- a regime change in Iraq. Yet, the United States continues to impose its will and useless policies, with no concern regarding the needless suffering that goes with it. One could argue who is responsible for this suffering, U.S. foreign policy or Hussein's stubbornness, but if George really cared about other people, besides rich, white Americans, he would end the embargo and all the tough talk regarding how we will drop bombs, possibly nuclear, on Iraq to show Hussein that he's serious.
Mr. Bush only gives lip service to human rights to show support for an unjust war.
