Staff Report

UNM, 6, NMSU, 2

The UNM baseball team gave an impressive performance this weekend by taking two out of three games in El Paso, Texas.

On Friday, the Lobos were led by their ace, James Vermilyea, who had another great outing on the mound.

Vermilyea (2-1) pitched eight strong innings while striking out 14 in a 6-2 win over New Mexico State University. He gave up two earned runs while scattering six hits and two walks in handing the Aggies their first loss of the season.

Offensively, UNM was led by red-hot hitting center fielder Corey Lizarraga. He finished a perfect 4-4 from the plate while driving in one run with a solo shot and scoring three more runs on the base paths.
