Lobo women fall down to CSU

Staff Report

The University of New Mexico women's basketball team was beaten by a score of 66-53 by Colorado State University Thursday night.

CSU was able to control the second half after the Lobos had built a 29-26 lead at halftime.

With the Rams leading 45-44 in the second half, sophomore guard Mandi Moore had a chance to tie the game with a free throw. Moore missed from the line and CSU went on a quick 5-0 for and a six-point lead. After that, it was all Rams.

"They executed their offense better than we did," head coach Don Flanagan said on 610 KNML. "They got the momentum on their side and they got a lot of easy shots."

Cristal Garcia led UNM in scoring with 13 points. Senior center Jordan Adams was held to a season low three points on the night. Moore and junior forward Melissa Forest were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points each.

Flanagan is confident that his team will respond to the loss on Saturday when the Lobos play Wyoming.

"We'll be back," Flanagan said. "This team is too good to go in the tank right now."

UNM heads to Laramie, Wyo., for a 7 p.m. showdown against the Cowgirls.
