The Women's Resource Center sponsored a lunch workshop focusing on a non-traditional method of healing.
The Thursday workshop, focusing on vibrational healing of the body, mind and spirit, was part of the Brown Bag Series sponsored by the center.
"We like to offer some alternatives and some glimpses of what traditional and healing methods are like," said Summer Little, program services coordinator for the center.
The workshop was conducted by Karuna Fluhart, a professional mental health counselor. Fluhart, who teaches vibrational healing through sound, color and touch, conducts workshops that are sponsored by the center.
The one-hour session included a discussion about Fluhart's background and an explanation about the different levels of energy.
According to the center's flier, Fluhart's experience comes from Ayurveda, Shamanism, and Tibetan Buddhist esoteric practice.

The group then participated in an exercise to help all participants connect to their bodies. Participants were asked to say what word they would use to describe their thoughts at a particular moment. Then participants were asked to put their hand to their heart and say what that one word was.
After that, Fluhart asked everyone to release their energy through sound. The room was lit by a green light which is supposed to bring out cleansing energy.
"It is interesting trying to focus on my thoughts and breathing," said junior women's studies major Amanda Gutierrez .
Little said that the goal of the workshop was to give people a different approach to healing.
"We find many ways to cope with lifestyles," Little said. "If these approaches help them, that's great."
Guiterrez said she liked the heart exercise and thought of the process as a stress reliever.
"When I came out, I was relaxed and happy," she said.
