Editor,
I hope the irony of Bush's visit to the Vietnam War Memorial on Monday was not lost.
This from a man whose family connections let him enlist in the Texas Air National Guard ahead of an 18-month waiting list of those hoping to avoid the war. This from a man who then honored this commitment by simply not showing up, like it was a summer job, and was never prosecuted for being AWOL.
This from a man on the eve of ordering young Americans to make the ultimate sacrifice, also amidst governmental lies, that he was unwilling to make.
This from a man who glibly threatens to unleash the world's most devastating arsenal of weapons of mass destruction to further the narrow financial interests of the oil industry to which he inextricably wound. It is only fitting that Exxon pay for the Iraqi War Memorial rather than taxpayers.
God Bless America.
