The exhibition season is behind us and we fared pretty well.
I think we surprised many doubtful critics. People didn't think highly of our team because of some unfamiliar faces. The exhibition games are used to help tighten a team's offense and defense as well as team unity. It is a goal that you win both games. Even though we won both games it really means nothing on record.
The true test comes this weekend when we face our first opponent - the University of California at Berkeley Bears.
Like I mentioned earlier, this will be the true test for our team. A Pacific-10 Conference opponent is a great confidence builder going into the season. Cal is known for having talent, producing players, such as Jason Kidd, who plays for the New Jersey Nets, Shariff Abdur-Rahim who plays for the Atlanta Hawks and Kevin Johnson, who used to play for the Phoenix Suns. Enough with the history lesson, the bottom line is it is a good team and they need to be respected.

We have been preparing for their team for about a week or so. They have three key players - Joe Shipp who is a forward and is basically their top player, Brian Wethers, also a forward, and Amit Tamir, who is their power forward. Shipp and Tamir can shoot the ball from deep while Wethers is more of a driving to basket kind of player. If we can contain these three we will be victorious, if not we could be in for a long night. We have confidence in the coaches and in each other that we will come ready to play on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
We will need you, the student body, to be there for your support. Come loud and rowdy! We will need your intimidating presence toward the opposition to have momentum from the start to the finish of the game.
