Athletes of the Week

Linebacker Billy Strother and the entire UNM women's soccer team are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week.

Strother, a junior transfer, made three crucial plays in the Lobos 15-8 victory over SDSU. Strother had five tackles, blocked a first quarter punt that led to UNM's first score, forced a safety and knocked down the Aztecs' final pass to preserve the win.

The women's soccer team made a surprising run to the finals of the MWC championships.

The Lobos beat Air Force and Utah 1-0 in advancing to the championship final, wher they fell to BYU 5-1. Senior Marte Dolva had two game-winning goals and sophomore keeper Kristen Winters posted two shutouts along the way.
