This year's Homecoming theme is "Homecoming on the Range" and the entire pep rally committee will be dressed in western wear to help provide the spirit.

The Homecoming Pep Rally will be Friday afternoon on the west side of Zimmerman Library. During the hour-long event the University ROTC will present the colors and the marching band will also play the school song.

Stipends for the 2003 spring semester for $100 will given as door prizes as well as gift certificates to Saggio's, Martini Grille, UNM Bookstore, Bosque Bull Sandwiches, Smith's Food and Drug store and Albertson's Food and Drug store. Pep rally committee members purchased the certificates.

The door prizes are just an added incentive, said Pep Rally Chairman Julian Emmons-Lucero.

"Getting students involved in college life is important," Lucero-Emmons said. "Campus involvement makes college a better place to learn. Part of the college experience is about becoming involved and meeting different students. Also, to get involved in the whole entire scholastic spectrum."

Congresswoman Heather Wilson will address the student body at the pep rally and will also attend the football game.

"It isn't a political stop," Lucero-Emmons said. "She wants to wish all the sports teams good luck in the upcoming season."

Gail Beam, the Democrat N.M. representative for the 18th District will also attend.

Freshman and member of the pep really committee Patricia Grandoville said that she got involved with the Homecoming activities to meet more people and help students become aware of Homecoming. Grandoville is also singing the National Anthem at the UNM-Utah game Saturday.

"The pep rally is a way of addressing the masses and getting a whole bunch of students together to meet people," Lucero-Emmons said. "There's a whole different collegiate world out there to explore."

The Homecoming Court candidates will also be announced. At the end of the pep rally the finalist will be chosen and the king and queen will be crowned at the game.

All University team coaches will have an opportunity to address the crowd and inform students about upcoming games and events.
