UNM soccer teams to finish conference seasons at home

The UNM men's and women's soccer teams will wrap up their respective home conference seasons this weekend.

Women's soccer

The women's team will play its final Mountain West Conference games Friday against Air Force at 5 p.m. at UNM Soccer Complex and will travel to Wyoming to face the Cowgirls at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Lobos are coming off an encouraging home stand last weekend as they lost 3-2 to Brigham Young University and held 25th-ranked Utah to a scoreless draw.

Air Force is sixth in the MWC with a 5-11-0 record this year, 0-5 in the conference. Wyoming has also struggled this season at 4-10-1 overall and 0-4 in the MWC.

UNM is currently fifth in the MWC with a 9-6-1 overall record, 2-1-1 in the MWC. The Lobos lead the conference in goals scored with 33. UNM heads to Provo, Utah, for the MWC Championships Nov. 6-9.

Men's soccer

The Lobo men will play their final home games in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action Saturday against Air Force at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. against the University of Denver.

The Falcons are 7-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the MPSF while the Pioneers are 6-9-0 overall, 0-2-0 in the conference.

The Lobos are having a break out year at 11-2-0, 1-0-0 in MPSF play. UNM has been led by a stingy defense, the standout play of goalkeeper sophomore Andrew Weber, strong possession play in the midfield and the scoring of freshman Ben Ashwill. Ashwill leads the team with nine goals.
