The University of New Mexico men's golf team shot a combined three-day total of 857 and finished fifth out of 18 teams in the Barrona Collegiate Cup that concluded on Tuesday in Lakeside, Calif.
The Lobos finished 11 strokes behind front-runner San Diego State University, which shot an 846.
Madalitso Muthiya led UNM, finishing in ninth place while shooting a final round one-under par 71 and a three-day total of 212.
Micheal Letzig came in 17th with a 214 and David Schultz shot a 215 good enough for a tie for 21st. Ian Medlock tied for 39th with a 219 and Jim Anderson rounded out the top five shooting a 222.
Coming off a victory two weeks ago, freshman phenom Jay Choi came in 61st.

The Lobos came into the tournament ranked sixth in the nation. SDSU came back, trailing the University of Denver after 36-holes. Denver finished in second while Colorado State and BYU rounded out the top four ahead of UNM.
The Lobos finished the fall season and are out of action until February when they start spring play.
