UNM senior Bart Scott led an impressive showing as the Lobo men's tennis team swept the singles and doubles championships at the Balloon Fiesta Invitational this weekend at the Lobo Tennis Club.
Scott dominated singles competition sweeping into the finals without losing a set. He was just as dominant in the final, downing the University of Colorado's Justin Hunter 6-1, 6-1.
The Lobos were equally impressive in the double's tournament. Three of UNM's doubles teams earned semifinal births. Junior Jasmin Hodzic and Scott captured a finals appearance by downing Texas A&M's Khalid El Doury and Matt Loucks 8-4.
In the other semifinal Lobos senior Brian Salazar and sophomore Ryan Stotland squeaked by fellow UNM sophomore David Kowalski and freshman Nick Ames 9-8, 11-9 in the tiebreaker. In the final, Salazar and Stotland defeated Scott and Hodzic 9-7, to deny Scott of championships in both competitions.
"I am really pleased to have three teams, two in the finals, of the doubles draw and have Bart win the singles tournament," Head coach Alan Dills said in a University press release.
