Pharmacy, hospital staff find suspected narcotics

News in Brief:

Police were dispatched to the University Hospital and to the UNM Pharmacy Tuesday in response to two separate reports of staff finding suspected narcotics.

In the first incident, UNM Hospital security staff turned over a crack pipe and a tablet stamped '512.'

According to the report, the tablet and pipe were taken off of a patient at the hospital.

In the second incident, police were dispatched to the UNM Pharmacy to take into custody a bag of an unknown white substance found on the floor of a clinic.

Lt. Michael Omtvedt, of the UNM Police Department, said that when UNMH staff members discover narcotics or drug paraphernalia on patients, they turn it over to campus police who properly dispose of it.

Police were treating the '512' tablet as an illegal drug and Omtvedt said the department will dispose of it, and the bag of the unknown white substance, as usual.
